Instructors use songs, games, toys and other fun methods that cater to the learning styles and development of young skaters. Levels overlap to repeat elements and allow for mastery. 3 to 4 year olds are separated from 5 to 6 year olds initially, but join the 5 to 6 year old curriculum after a season or two. Most sessions are 40 minutes and include a group lesson and supervised play time.
For ages 7-12 years, Youth Learn to Skate classes are divided into 3 levels. Most classes are 40 minutes. Participants learn the essentials of skating like gliding, pushing and stroking in a fun and entertaining atmosphere.
Teen/Adult LTS is for skaters ages 13 and up who wish to learn how to skate or advance their current skating skills.
The beginner hockey programs offered by FMC Ice Sports allow a participant the ability to learn the game both in the tradition hockey season or off-season.
The high school season is short and doesn’t allow for significant development time. FMC Ice Sports off-season programs will allow you to get in shape for the season and continue to develop your skills.
FMC Ice Sports offers a range of Adult Hockey opportunities ranging from beginner to advanced. Our Adult Instructional Hockey serves as an entry point for beginners into the sport. Our league offerings then pair players of comparable ability in order to field the most competitive divisions for everyone.
While all other programs offered by FMC Ice Sports are co-ed, these programs are Girls & Women only and geared specifically towards developing female hockey players.
The purpose of the Skating Fundamentals Program is to teach skaters to propel themselves forward and backward on the ice, to teach skaters a more in depth use and understanding of their blades and edges and finally, to start linking the things they have learned together.
Specialty classes are designed to develop aspects of skating not addressed in instructional classes and to provide additional skating opportunities to skaters of all ability levels. Examples include Ensemble, Power / Edge Class and Ice Theater. Specialty classes may not be available in all FMC locations.
The FMC Ice Sports Practice Makes Perfect program is designed to help
you progress naturally and comfortably and provide choices and options
that help make your skating successful at any commitment level.
